Improving cancer care coordination and screening (ICCCS)

Improving cancer care coordination and screening (ICCCS)

The summary reports of the Improving Cancer Care Coordination and Screening (ICCCS) project, which was led by researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in partnership with Erasmus MC (the Netherlands), are now available on the Reform Support website of the European Commission. The goal of the ICCCS project was to enhance cancer care coordination and screening in Latvia and Slovakia, and one report was published for each country.

The reports include evaluations of the current cancer burden, screening strategies, and other elements of the cancer landscape in Latvia and Slovakia, as well as recommendations and roadmaps to improve cancer control in these countries.

The ICCCS project was conducted between 2022 and 2024, with funding from the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument. The project contributed to Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan by (i) optimizing existing screening programmes and developing new approaches, (ii) creating comprehensive cancer centres networked at the European level and developing a comprehensive cancer infrastructure, and (iii) creating and developing a well-functioning cancer registry.
